Legal Requirements For Motorcycle Number Plates

When you take a taxed, MOT'd vehicle out on the public highway you probably consider yourself road legal as long as you have passed your driving test and taken out some insurance. Its important to remember that there are various other things you must do to comply with the laws of the road. One of these things is to make sure you have number plates that meet the regulations.

What this means is that you must have a single plate on the rear of your motorcycle, clearly visible, with black lettering on a reflective yellow background. The lettering on your motorcycle number plates must also be of an exact size.

Many people decide to ignore the law and get plates made up that vary somewhat from the laws laid down. Thankfully if you get caught flouting these laws the penalties are not severe so if you fancy custom motorcycle number plates it might be a risk worth taking.
